ALBATROSS AVIARY

A Sanctuary for Birds. A Voice for Change.

Please note: We do not offer adoptions to the public.
Please click here if you are curious about our adoption policy.
Albatross Aviary is a nonprofit bird sanctuary and welfare organization committed to protecting and caring for parrots and other intelligent, emotionally complex birds affected by the exotic pet trade. We provide permanent refuge, advocate for ethical care practices, and educate the public about the true needs and experiences of captive birds.
We are not a rehoming facility. We do not cycle animals through. We provide lifelong care, stable environments, and deeply informed, species-specific support to animals who have already been displaced too many times. Our work centers on long-term trust, conservation advocacy, and building a world where birds are no longer treated as novelty pets, but as the sentient, social beings they are.

Our Mission:

Albatross Aviary is committed to rescuing and providing lifelong sanctuary for neglected, abused, and abandoned birds. Through public education, we advocate for avian welfare and ethical bird ownership, aiming to reduce bird displacement by promoting awareness and education.

Our Pledge:

We are dedicated to ethically addressing the crisis of unwanted birds in the Midwest. Our priority is the well-being, care, safety, and conservation of these intelligent creatures, and we do and will refrain from exploitative practices while  advocating for their protection.

Adoption Policy

We do not allow public adoptions here at Albatross Aviary, but we do have adoption and foster programs in place for our dedicated volunteers. We understand that some birds raised with people do better when they get the attention that only one-on-one interaction and companionship can provide, so after 6 consecutive months of consistent and reliable volunteering, our volunteers become eligible to adopt or become a foster parent. Because our main criteria for adoption/fostering is the bird choosing their person (and not the other way around!) we cannot guarantee the opportunity will present itself immediately after 6 months, if at all.
